"If you want to sacrifice the admiration of many men for the criticism of one, go ahead, get married."

~Katharine Hepburn

Today I came home from yet another day at work, everything was normal nothing out of place, it was "smooth sailing" you could say. I started to cook some dinner when I just so happened to notice the mail sitting on the counter. Not too concerned about flipping through it, I continued my quest of making low fat/whole grain Mac & Cheese (about as good as it sounds). My roommate walks into the kitchen and announces, with wide eyes and a smile, that I got a "little something" in the mail. Thinking it was just another bill I scrutinized the stack, picked it up, and began flipping through the envelopes. Junk, junk, bill, COUPONS, letter...

The white envelope caught my eye like an orange traffic cone on new black top. I roll my eyes and carefully open the seal.

"Mr. and Mrs. So-n-so

request your presence at

the marriage of their daughter

Blah Blah Blah

to

Blah Blah

the son of Mr. and Mrs. Whomp Whomp

at such and such place

at such and such time."

Another wedding invitation, that makes five that I have received this Summer. As I ponder yet another classy piece of stationary my mind meanders to my fabulous life as a young, single, Christian woman. EXCITING- I think in mild sarcasm. For example, last Saturday night (the night on the town for most single people) my roommate and I found ourselves locked in our third floor apartment, without hope of "painting the town red," or any other color. I mean what's the deal with that?As young, single, Christian women, we should be sought after... can I hear an Amen? But why are we at home doing nothing on a weekend night?

This leads me to believe that there are just no young, single, Christian men out there. However, if there are they are with all the wrong women, just kidding... or am I?

Every day I am reminded of my "oh-so-apparent" single life. Today I sat in the coffee shop of the hospital, where I work, and did one of my favorite things to do when I eat my lunch, people watch. Every passer-by-er was part of a couple. I looked around in disbelief, wondering if the hospital was offering some kind of two-for-the price of one deal. Oh-so-ironically "Better Together" by Jack Johnson blares through the ear buds of my iPod and pounding the lyrics into my brain... Ooooo, it's always better when we're together....

I quickly change the song to "I Don't want to be in Love" by Good Charlotte. Ah, so much better.

I came to the realization, as I walked back to work, that I am content where I am...

That is, until I receive another fancy envelope addressed to Miss Trina LaFollett in calligraphy.

I am not a tea drinker, I go for the "hard stuff," coffee, that is. I LOVE coffee. Very rarely will you see me without a cup in my hand. However, lately I've been on a health kick to shed many pounds (30 so far). Yes, it is true, I took up the most awful tasting substance in the world, green tea.
My dosage of coffee is now very minimal (a couple times a week), and I've upped my dosage of green tea. What I have established though is that I like white tea. My favorite is Tazo Blossom Berry.
I am on a quest, to kick my caffeine habit, and to go down a couple more sizes.

I have waited in anticipation for The Dark Knight to be released. FINALLY, last night me and the roommates went to the 12:00 am showing! We purhcased our tickets earlier in the day, thankfully, so all we had to do was get to the theater early to find "good" seats.
Thinking that 10:45 pm was early enough we drove to the theater in Bellevue. As we pass the theater to go to the parking garage, we see people standing outside the building. I find this a little unsusal, because the theater is on the third floor and why would there be people all the way outside.
Once in the parking garage, we find a beautiful parking space right by the elevator. Things seem to be working out in our favor. We go to the third level, and sure enough, the line we had originally looked at in disbelief was the line we needed to be in. We go back down to wait our turn, and at this moment the line is backed up almost half a block. CRAZINESS!
That was not the craziest thing though, we saw the long line and the usual weirdo people in costumes, but you don't normally see people scalping tickets on the street for a movie! HILARIOUS!
With a 45 min wait there was nothing much to pass the time. To make it worse, we were standing in the middle of about a million high school aged kids. Uhg.
However, my biggest concern was having a bad seat and not sitting with my roommates! At the same time, I didn't care too much, because when the movie starts seating arrangements don't really matter.
Finally, we get into the theater. People are everywhere, "this seat is saved," "can't sit here," it was a Forest Gump experience. We ended up with pretty good seats, tic-tac-toe three in a row!
It was a very noisy theater, especially with all the under-aged "jokers" (pun) sitting around us.
However, when the movie started the theater was SILENT!
The movie was amazing! Christian Bale was gorgeous, of course, and Heath Ledger was brilliant! It's really sad that he is gone, because he did an absolutely amazing job. So, if you go to see this movie don't expect him to be a gay cowboy or a beautiful Aussie teen heartthrob, because you will be disappointed. Also, props to Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine. Aaron Eckhart also did a good job! Maggie Gylenhal was only so, so for me.
For a movie with a lot of big names, it was outstanding!
Love it! See it!

Friday night I get off of work and come home to the usual situation (either one or both roommates on the couch watching TV). I Dread the thought of another mundane Friday night. I change my clothes and flop on to the couch, and into another episode of 8 Simple Rules. My roommate and I start talking about work and whatnot, when she all of a sudden perks up in remembrance of an advertisement on the radio. On July 11th every year, 7/11 gives away free slurpees. We decide we would be fools not to take advantage of this amazing offer, so we meander the short distance to get our free slurpee. We get there and realize that the "free" cups are tiny! I don't know why we are surprised, but we are. However, the small cup size does not quench our indulgence nor our appetite.

After we drop a "mini slurp" (not even big enough for the double E's) off at our other roommate's work , we head for Teriyaki Madness, our favorite place for the Japanese delight. We take it to go. Back in the car, we start to drive back to our apartment, when we see, low and behold another 7/11. We decide that a slurpee, or rather a mini slurp, would enhance the flavor of our Japanese cuisine. We get in to the store and see there are only a few cups left, but we had made it!

One viewing of The Parent Trap (Lindsay Lohan version), half of my House Special, all brown rice, and the last sip of my crystal light peach mango mini slurp later, we head out for a close friends birthday at the Cheesecake Factory (YUM). I am a simpleton when it comes to cheesecake and either like it plain or with cherries, I decide on w/cherries. We have laughs over our delicious desert and then the evening comes to an end, now 11:30pm.

Driving back home, we open the sunroof and turn up the stereo (Leavin' by Jesse M.), and soon we start laughing hysterically over plain nonsense. On a whim, we decide that we should take a more scenic route to our humble abode for more reasons than one. Although we are stuffed to the max, we are in search of yet, yes, another 7/11. But, why stop at one, when there are at least two more on the way to our casa?!

7/11 #3, says that they are out of cups, my roommate and I sigh and start back outside, when the cashier mumbles something, walks through the door that states "employees only" and comes back through with a heap of mini slurp cups. This time I try crystal light cherry limeade. I figure that I already have cherries in me, so I'm not mixing flavors.
we have 20 min to get to the other two.
7/11#4 The cashier says that they are not a "participating location." My thought is, if 7/11 did not have a birthday, then you would not own this store! Would you celebrate your child's birthday? BAM! We walked out of the store and straight to the 7/11 sign to show our frustration with this particular one- no harm was done, just a picture of me showing my frustration.

7/11#5 only 10 min to get there. we are now driving 5mph over the speed limit, when all of a sudden, I see behind us the dreaded red and blue flashing lights. What a horrible excuse to be pulled over, "I'm sorry officer, I was just trying to make it to the 7/11 before they take away all the free mini slurp cups. We only have 5 min... now." However, the cop was not on our tail, thankfully, but on another mission and just needed us and our quest for mini slurps out of his or her way. We walk into the store with one minute to spare, only to have the cashier tell us that they are out, but we could have the next size up for only a $1.08. Hummmmm, let me think about this, I came for a FREE slurpee but I could get a different size for a non-discounted price.

We look at him in disbelief, and say "thanks, but no."
Finally home, we decide that Saturday will be a day of dieting and fitness.
Oh Thank Heaven for 7/11

I LOVE the 4th of July. I go crazy over the three "F's" : Food, Fun, and Fireworks.

This year I was invited to my roommate's parents house in Vancouver, WA. I was not only exited for the "F's," but also for the three day weekend, which was much needed!

Our day started off with a four mile walk then it was back to the house to get ready for the festivities. Soon after, we were off to join a group of people who I have never met. I have never been too outgoing and would normally be nervous, but this day I didn't even care (not quite the anticipated feeling of Christmas, but close to. I know, crazy right? No, I just like it!)

Everything turned out to be really "FUN"! We ended up playing many rounds of my all-time favorite game- Catch Phrase- followed by some sequence, and then the anticipated fireworks! I don't know why but when I see the big fountain explosions, everything seems calm, for once. I love the sounds of "oooing" and "ahhhing." For me I always think of the movie The Sandlot, when the group of boys are headed for the field, when they all stop to watch the excitement in the sky, with America the Beautiful (the Ray Charles version) playing in the background. Love, love, love it!

A couple of weeks ago I went to a fundraiser in Roseburg, OR for Little River Christian Camp. I wouldn't normally travel so far for a fundraiser or even go to one (come on, why would I? my car is crappy and I have no money), however, this camp is special to me. For two years running I have volunteered a couple weeks out of "Summer" to be a counselor for both high schoolers and Jr. Highers. That is tough stuff.

So, not only have I spent time there, but my sister and her husband manage the camp. So, in going to the event, I got to spend some time with the fam and dress up!
